One Hundred Faces of Preston
Portraits elevate the individual and focus our attention on the person; they bring us to realise the intrinsic worth and humanity of the individual.
Exhibition, physically and digitally will serve to draw attention to the people in Preston. Launching such an exhibition with the subjects of the portrait will train our eyes on Preston’s great diversity and its community’s position at the core flux of many of our socity’s key issues.
Historically portraits often act as a window into the legacy of the past. Bringing more deliberate photography into the creation of a collection prompts viewers and participants to value their own legacies and to recognise that of other communities.
To engage more people in the creation of the ‘hundred’ I want to develop a focus group of people to act as co-curators to view and select works for final printing.
The process of building ‘The hundred’ then has several lenses which refine the focus and the overall image the photographic set creates. The people become the camera. They reflect as well as mitigating refraction. They see as well as being seen.
